Pardon our mess as we make improvements to Winston Salem Avenue.

The local businesses, restaurants and attractions in the Marina District at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront remain open and ready to serve you during City construction.

Be sure to sign up for email updates and news to keep up with improvements on Winston Salem Avenue.

Getting There

  • To reach the western portion of the Marina District, detour along Norfolk Avenue to Mediterranean Avenue for businesses on Winston Salem between Baltic and Mediterranean avenues.
  • To reach the eastern portion of the Marina District, detour along Norfolk Avenue to Pacific Avenue for businesses on Winston Salem between Pacific Avenue and Arctic Avenue.
  • Businesses located between Arctic and Baltic avenues are open to customers, and can be accessed via Winston Salem Avenue.
  • Through traffic should avoid crossing Winston Salem Avenue between Arctic and Baltic avenues and detour via Norfolk Avenue.
  • Foot traffic from the Oceanfront can reach the Marina District via the Rudee Loop Connector Walk and sidewalks on Winston Salem Avenue.
  • Vehicles are asked to avoid detouring through the nearby neighborhoods and use Norfolk Avenue instead.
  • Access to homes and businesses located on Winston Salem and Mediterranean avenues will be maintained through the duration of the project.

Improvements to Winston Salem Avenue

This project will enhance connectivity between Mediterranean Avenue, the Rudee Loop Walkway and Pacific Avenue. In addition, it will provide increased safety and improved aesthetics through new sidewalks, bicycle facilities, lighting, landscaping, on-street parking, crosswalks, accessibility upgrades, and utility improvements within the right-of-way.
